What is the gallbladder?
It is a contractile sac made of muscular-membranous tissue, about 8-10 cm in length,
3-5 cm in width, and with a capacity of up to 60 cm³,
located on the lower surface of the liver in a special fossa.
It has an elongated shape tapering toward the neck,
which transitions into the cystic duct,
eventually connecting with the hepatic duct.
The function of the gallbladder is to serve as a reservoir for the bile produced by the liver and to periodically expel it through the bile ducts.
This is necessary for the digestion process, activation of intestinal and pancreatic enzymes, timely absorption and breakdown of fats, fighting pathogenic bacteria, and neutralization of stomach acid. By the way, the amount of bile produced by the body per day can vary from 1 to 1.8 liters.
Where do gallbladder diseases come from
The most common causes of gallbladder diseases are:
- regular overeating;
