Methergine is a medication based on methylergometrine, intended for:
• Active management of the third stage of labor (postpartum period) to stimulate placental separation and reduce bleeding.
• Treatment of uterine atony and bleeding during and after placental separation, in cases of cesarean section or after abortion.
• Treatment of subinvolution of the uterus, lochiometra, and late postpartum hemorrhage.
Pharmacotherapeutic category:
Oxytocics – ergot alkaloids.

Methergine 0.125 mg in coated tablets: each tablet contains 0.125 mg of methylergometrine maleate.
Known excipients: lactose monohydrate, sucrose.

• Treatment of uterine atony and bleeding during and after the postpartum period, in cases of cesarean section or abortion.
• Treatment of subinvolution of the uterus, lochiometra, and late postpartum hemorrhage.
Contraindications and side effects:
When should Methergine not be used?
• Hypersensitivity to the active substance, other ergot alkaloids, or any of the excipients.
• Pregnancy.
• The first and second stages of labor before the delivery of the anterior shoulder of the fetus (Methergine should not be used for induction or acceleration of labor).
• Severe hypertension.
• Preeclampsia and eclampsia.
• Diseases associated with vascular obliteration (including coronary ischemia).
• Sepsis.
Recommended for use under medical supervision.
Storage conditions:
Tablets: do not require special storage conditions.
