PHARMACOLOGICAL ACTION
Ademetionine, the active substance of the drug, is a compound present in all tissues and fluids of the body. Its molecule participates in transmethylation reactions (transfer of a methyl group in the body's metabolic reactions) as a methyl group donor and is also a precursor of thiol compounds (cysteine, taurine, glutathione, CoA, etc.).
The drug has hepatoprotective (liver tissue protecting) activity. With prolonged use, improvement in liver function indicators is noted. In patients with cirrhosis, an increase in glutamine levels in the liver, an increase in cysteine and taurine levels in the blood plasma, and a decrease in methionine levels in the blood serum are observed, indicating normalization of metabolic reactions in the body.
