Budwig Diet: Basics and Benefits
The Budwig Diet, also known as the "Budwig Protocol," was developed by German biochemist and pharmacologist Johanna Budwig. This nutritional approach has gained popularity due to its scientific basis and focus on natural health enhancement. The method is based on a combination of natural foods rich in beneficial fats and proteins, which, according to the author, help improve metabolism and increase energy levels in the body.
Basic Principles of the Budwig Diet
The method is based on the combination of the following components:
1. Cold-pressed flaxseed oil
Flaxseed oil is considered a rich source of omega-3 fatty acids, which are essential for the normal functioning of the body. Johanna Budwig claimed that it helps combat inflammatory processes and supports the health of cell membranes.
2. Homemade cottage cheese
This dairy product contains proteins and sulfur-containing amino acids, which, in combination with flaxseed oil, ensure better absorption of beneficial fats.
3. Avoidance of artificial additives and sugar
The diet excludes processed foods, refined sugar, and trans fats, which are considered harmful to health.
Benefits of the Budwig Diet
1. Strengthening the cardiovascular system
Omega-3 fatty acids help reduce levels of bad cholesterol and prevent the formation of blood clots.
2. Maintaining cell health
Flaxseed oil and dairy products improve membrane exchange, which is important for the prevention of many diseases.
3. Detoxification of the body
The products recommended in the method help cleanse the body of toxins.
4. Increasing energy levels
A balanced combination of fats, proteins, and carbohydrates helps maintain energy throughout the day.
Budwig Recipe
A key element in this approach is a special paste made from flaxseed oil and cottage cheese:
- 2-3 tablespoons of organic cold-pressed flaxseed oil
- 120-150 g of homemade cottage cheese (preferably without lumps)
- 2 teaspoons of hemp oil
- 0.5 teaspoon of black cumin oil
- 3-4 tablespoons of blueberry paste
- 1-2 tablespoons of crushed nuts: walnuts, hazelnuts, or cashews.
Using an immersion blender, whip the cottage cheese with the oils for 5 minutes. Then add 3 tablespoons of blueberry paste and continue whipping until smooth. Serve the mixture in a dessert dish, adding a spoonful of blueberry paste on top and sprinkling with crushed nuts.
The prepared paste should be consumed immediately after preparation. This portion can be taken once a day instead of breakfast or lunch, 5 days a week. After 2 months, switch flaxseed oil to hemp, milk thistle, or camelina oil.
