Rhinoseptoplasty (alteration of the shape of the nose)

Nose plastic surgery or rhinoplasty (from Greek Rhinos - nose) is possibly the oldest plastic surgery. Reconstructive rhinoplasty was performed about 2600 years ago. At the same time, cosmetic nose surgery has been performed for just over 100 years. Aesthetic rhinoplasty is a surgery aimed at changing the shape and/or size of the external nose and improving appearance. This surgery can also be performed to correct congenital defects, Nose deformations after injuries and for improving breathing through the nose (functional nose surgery). [accordion][accor_block title="When is rhinoplasty indicated?"] Indications for rhinoplasty include the desire to improve one's appearance and restore harmonious facial proportions. [/accor_block][accor_block title="How significant can changes in appearance be? "] The nose is one of the most important structures, forming the overall harmony of the face. That is why deformations of the nose often cause significant emotional distress for patients. On the other hand, Changing the shape and size of the nose can completely transform the face. It is not for nothing that nose surgery is called "surgery of millimeters" and each operation requires meticulous individual planning. What result can be achieved? One of the main tasks of nose plastic surgery is to create a new harmonious appearance while preserving the individual characteristic features of the face. Of course, rhinoplasty can significantly change the face, however, it is important to remember, That the nose does not exist separately from the rest of the facial features and a short, upturned nose is unlikely to suit a face with large, elongated features. Small, inconspicuous at first glance changes, which give the face natural harmony, are the ultimate result in aesthetic rhinoplasty. [/accor_block][accor_block title="How is rhinoplasty performed? "] There are two techniques used in performing this surgery: with an external incision on the skin of the nasal septum ("open" rhinoplasty) and using only internal nasal incisions ("closed" method). Both methods provide good results. The operation is performed under local anesthesia or general anesthesia. [/accor_block][accor_block title="What is the essence of the operation?"] It involves the correction of the bone and cartilage structures, forming the framework of the nose. The duration of the intervention is 1-2 hours. After the surgery, an external fixation bandage and internal nasal tampons are usually used for several days. Is hospitalization necessary? The usual duration of a hospital stay for this type of surgical intervention is 1-2 days. Sometimes, the surgery can be performed on an outpatient basis. [/accor_block][accor_block title="Do any scars remain after rhinoplasty?"] In the "closed" method of surgery, there is one small incision in each nostril, which are not visible from the outside and over time are difficult to distinguish even during a medical examination. After "open" rhinoplasty, a scar remains on the skin part of the nasal septum, which is normally barely noticeable. Additionally, sometimes additional skin incisions are made at the base of the nostrils. Scars from these incisions, as a rule, are almost unnoticeable. [/accor_block][accor_block title="What side effects and complications can be observed after the surgery?"] For the first few days, nasal swelling is usually observed, both visible from the outside and inside, which may manifest as nasal congestion. Bruising under the eyes can last for 10-12 days. Slight swelling of the external nasal tissues may persist for up to 5-6 months, which is usually unnoticeable to others. The processes of tissue formation and restructuring typically last up to 9-12 months after rhinoplasty. It is believed, that the final result of the operation can be assessed no earlier than this time. Complications such as infection, impaired healing, or significant bleeding are extremely rare. The recovery period for returning to normal social activity levels depends on individual characteristics and the extent of the surgery performed. Most patients can return to work within 4-5 days after nose surgery. However, during the first few months there may be some restrictions in diet and certain types of activities. For 5-8 weeks after the surgery, it is not recommended to wear glasses with heavy frames. [/accor_block][/accordion]
