Treatment of prostate adenoma

Prostate adenoma, or benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), is a common condition in men over the age of 50. This disease is characterized by an increase in the size of the prostate gland, which can lead to various symptoms, such as frequent urination, difficulty urinating, weak urine stream, and other urinary problems.

The treatment of prostate adenoma depends on the severity of symptoms, the overall condition of the patient, the presence of complications, and other factors.
At present, there are several methods for treating prostate adenoma, including conservative approaches, drug therapy, minimally invasive procedures, and surgical intervention.

One of the first steps in treating prostate adenoma may be the prescription of medications. Drugs, such as alpha-blockers and 5-alpha-reductase inhibitors, can help improve symptoms and reduce the size of the prostate gland. However, drug therapy does not always yield the desired result,
and in this case, more radical intervention may be required.
For patients with more severe symptoms or complications of prostate adenoma, minimally invasive procedures may be recommended.
These include methods of laser vaporization of prostate tissue,
transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP),
ultrasound therapy and other methods,
aimed at removing excess prostate tissue.

In cases,
when conservative and minimally invasive methods do not produce the expected effect or when prostate adenoma causes serious complications, surgical intervention may be required.
Surgical methods for treating prostate adenoma include open prostatectomy (removal of part or all of the prostate gland through an abdominal incision) or minimally invasive surgical methods,
such as laparoscopic or robotic adenomaectomy.

It is important to note,
that the choice of method for treating prostate adenoma should be made considering the individual characteristics of each patient and after consultation with a urologist or another specialist. Regular monitoring of the state of the prostate gland and timely seeking of medical assistance will help to detect and effectively treat prostate adenoma in a timely manner.
