Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is one of the effective and frequently used methods for treating superficial forms of basal cell carcinoma.
This method is based on the selective accumulation of a special substance (a photosensitizer) in tumor cells, followed by exposure to light of a specific wavelength, which leads to the destruction of cancer cells.
The advantages of PDT for superficial BCC include:
• Good cosmetic results (minimal scarring).
• The ability to treat multiple lesions.
• Relative noninvasiveness compared with surgery.
