What is hysteroscopy?
It is a procedure during which a doctor examines the inside of the uterine cavity using a thin optical instrument (a hysteroscope) inserted through the vagina.
What can a gynecologist see?
The condition of the endometrium and the openings of the fallopian tubes can be clearly assessed, and polyps, submucosal fibroids, adhesions (synechiae), and uterine developmental abnormalities can be detected.
How is it performed?
The procedure is performed on an outpatient basis or in a hospital, often with light anesthesia. The hysteroscope is inserted through the natural passages.
Why is it important?
Hysteroscopy is a highly accurate method for diagnosing the causes of abnormal bleeding, conception problems (infertility), and recurrent pregnancy loss, as well as for clarifying ultrasound findings. Treatment can often be performed immediately during the procedure—for example, removing a polyp or cutting through adhesions. This is a minimally invasive way to obtain maximum information and provide effective care.
