Plasmapheresis is a blood purification method that may be used in preparation for pregnancy, especially in complex or repeatedly unsuccessful cases. To undergo the procedure, the patient is connected to the machine through one of the peripheral veins using a catheter connected to a set of lines and a plasma filter. The entire process of separating plasma and returning the cells is performed automatically and safely, as only sterile, single-use disposable materials are used.
The procedure takes 1.5–2 hours.
