Colonoscopy
- is a method of endoscopic diagnosis of
colon diseases. In the course of the study, inflammatory processes, benign and malignant neoplasms, and ulcers in their early stages are detected.
Compared to other diagnostic methods, colonoscopy under anesthesia has a clear advantage – modern colonoscopy equipment allows the doctor to diagnose and perform a biopsy simultaneously.
The effectiveness of colonoscopy depends on the correct preparation of the patient for this examination. That is, the patient must meticulously follow all the doctor's prescriptions, including cleansing the bowels.
Indications for Colonoscopy
- blood or mucus in the stool;
- suspicion of any disease of the colon;
- presence of relatives with various tumors of the colon;
- past surgeries on the colon;
- to clarify data obtained from X-ray,
in ultrasound or other studies.
As a routine screening procedure, colonoscopy is recommended for all men and women over 50 years old - for early detection of colorectal cancer,
as well as for the removal of "dangerous" from the oncologists' point of view polyps.
About anesthesia during colonoscopy
Colonoscopy
- this is a fairly complex method of endoscopic examination of the colon, which sometimes is accompanied by discomfort and pain. The risk of pain is significantly higher if there are adhesions in the abdominal cavity or when the colon is elongated with the formation of additional loops.
Fortunately,
pain and fear are no longer insurmountable obstacles to performing a quality endoscopic examination of the colon.
In our clinic, colonoscopy is performed under light anesthesia.
This is called a sedative sleep, which allows the patient to fall asleep for a short time and thereby completely get rid of the pain and fear of the colonoscopy procedure. Everything is limited to an intravenous injection with a quick immersion in sleep, which ends almost simultaneously with the completion of the procedure.
