There are some general rules when preparing a first aid kit:
- If you take any medications regularly,
then take them with a margin, just in case you are delayed in another country due to unforeseen circumstances.
- You should take care of the documents confirming that you are taking medication. Some countries, for example, Poland, require a prescription and a medical card extract for those who need to regularly inject insulin.
- If the medication has psychotropic effects or is a potent drug (including painkillers) - don't forget to take the prescription as well; otherwise, you may encounter problems when boarding the plane.
- If you have chronic diseases that haven't flared up for a while – take medications to manage any potential exacerbations, as your body might react unpredictably to unfamiliar conditions.
- For all the medications you take with you,
- If you are taking medications from your home first-aid kit, check the expiration dates: expired medications may change their properties and have a less pronounced therapeutic effect.
Medications requiring special storage conditions are best placed in a thermal bag.
- To explain to the pharmacist in a foreign country what you need,
- Carefully study the list of substances prohibited from import into the country you are going to: what is freely sold here may be prohibited in another country,
- It is better to choose solid or powdered forms of medicine (liquids might cause issues during airport security checks).
In general,
if you think that something from your first-aid kit might draw the customs officer's attention,
bring with you the instruction leaflet,
the box, and even a doctor's prescription (if available).
- Only take medications that you know how to use and are sure you have no contraindications for.
The pharmacy of our clinic can equip a first aid kit for you upon your request,
and a general practitioner is always ready to provide consultation over the phone regarding the use of various medications.
So feel free to set out on your journey and stay healthy!
The "First Aid Kit" will be updated with new and detailed recommendations...
