Herbert Shelton (1895–1985) was an American physician, educator, and a major proponent of the Natural Hygiene movement of the 20th century. Herbert Shelton's views may diverge from modern dietetics,

Все продукты по признаку переваривания Шелтон делит на три группы: для одних нужна кислотная среда, для других — щелочная, а для третьих — нейтральная.
Мясо, молоко,
рыба, яйца хорошо перевариваются в кислотной среде; хлеб, сахар, зерновые и некоторые овощи, изобилующие углеводами — в щелочной; а ряд овощей (зелень, капуста, помидоры, перец, растительные масла и сливочное масло) — в нейтральной.

mental and physical discomfort.
• Never eat during serious work,
both physical and mental,
and for a short time before and after such work.
• Do not drink during meals!
Drinking water is allowed 10-15 minutes before meals,
and 30 minutes after eating fruits,
through 2 hours after starchy food and 4 hours after protein.
• Morning meals are best skipped altogether or limited to juice.
Lunch should be very light,
and dinner should be the largest meal and only after a short rest post-work.
• Fruits are best eaten separately,
with minimal variety.

• Eat at least one large portion of salad made of cabbage,

cucumbers,
radishes,
onions,
tomatoes,

parsley.
Cabbage juice and other vegetable juices,

will significantly increase the secretion of gastric juice.
• The main source of protein is nuts.
• Consume fats in moderation.
• Cook only a few types of foods at a time and cook them very briefly.
• Consider only clean water as a drink. Other "drinks" are either food (fruit juices, milk, etc.) or poisons (coffee, tea, cocoa, wine, soda).
• Exclude the consumption of salt and any seasonings.
• Exclude unhealthy and useless vegetables and fruits.
Among the widely spread ones, it is best to exclude rhubarb and gooseberries from the diet.
• Exclude sugar from the diet.
