A neonatologist is a doctor specializing in the care of newborns and infants, as well as in the diagnosis and treatment of conditions that may arise during the first months of their lives.
A home visit by a neonatologist can be especially convenient for parents who are unable to take their baby to a hospital or clinic. It can also be helpful if the child is ill or in a condition that makes transportation difficult or dangerous.
When should you call a neonatologist to your home?
Here are several situations in which this may be necessary:
- a high fever that does not decrease after taking conventional antipyretic medication;
- breathing problems, such as the child gasping for breath or wheezing frequently;
- poor appetite or refusal to drink, breastfeed, or take a bottle;
- a rash or other changes to the skin;
- persistent crying that cannot be soothed;
- any abnormalities or developmental defects requiring continuous monitoring and care.
The doctor will arrive at the agreed time, examine the child, determine the cause of their condition, and prescribe treatment. In some cases, additional examinations or consultations with specialists in other fields may be required.
