Vaccine Priorix
"Priorix" is a combined live vaccine that protects against three infectious diseases: measles, mumps, and rubella. The preparation is made from weakened viruses of these diseases and is designed to form a strong immunity by stimulating the production of antibodies.
Priorix Vaccine
🔹 Protection Against
• Measles — a highly contagious viral infection causing pneumonia and encephalitis.
• Mumps — risk of orchitis in men, pancreatitis, meningitis.
• Rubella — particularly dangerous during pregnancy (congenital rubella).
⸻
🔹 Age and Indications
• Typically administered to children:
• 1st dose: at 12–15 months (may vary by country).
• 2nd dose: at 4–6 years.
• Can be used for adolescents and adults if they are unvaccinated or lack vaccination records.
• Protection against rubella is important for adult women of reproductive age.
🛡 Immunity
Develops against three infections:
• After the 1st dose — already high
• After the 2nd dose — lifelong or very long-lasting
🤒 Side Reactions
Usually mild and short-term:
Common:
• Redness, swelling at the injection site
• Fever 37.5–38.5°C
• Irritability in children
• Mild rash

• Temporary joint discomfort
• Febrile seizures (extremely rare)
Very Rare:
• Allergic reactions
⸻
🚫 Contraindications
• Severe allergy to neomycin or components
• Severe immunodeficiency
• Pregnancy
• Severe reaction to a previous MMR vaccine
• Acute infectious disease with high fever
🔄 Compatibility with Other Vaccines
Priorix can be administered simultaneously (in different sites) with:
• DTP/ Pentaxim
• Prevenar / Pneumo-13
• Hepatitis B
• Chickenpox (Varilrix vaccine)
If not administered simultaneously, there should be at least 28 days between live vaccines.
ℹ️ Additional Facts
• The vaccine does not cause autism — this has been proven in numerous studies.
• Immunity against measles after vaccination is very high (≈98% after 2 doses).
• Generally better tolerated than single-component live vaccines.
