Vaccine Инфантрикс Гекса
Infanrix Hexa is a combination vaccine that protects against six dangerous infections in one shot: whooping cough, diphtheria, tetanus, polio, hepatitis B, and Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib). It is intended for the prevention of these diseases in children starting from the age of two months.
• Infanrix Hexa is intended for the immunization of infants and young children.
• Vaccination usually begins at 6 weeks of age.
• It is not used in children over ~3 years old (depending on recommendations).
⸻
📅 How it is administered — vaccination schedule
• Administered intramuscularly (usually in the front of the thigh for infants, in the deltoid muscle for older children).
• Course: 2–3 doses, with an interval of ≥1 month between doses (depending on the vaccination schedule).
• After the course, a booster may sometimes be required, depending on the immunization schedule.
⸻
✅ Advantages
• Protection against six dangerous diseases with one injection/course — convenient and saves doctor visits.
• Efficacy: the vaccine induces the production of protective antibodies to all components (diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, hepatitis B, polio, Hib).
• Quality and safety standards recognized in EU countries and worldwide.
⸻
⚠️ Possible side reactions
Like any vaccine, Infanrix Hexa may cause:
Common (in >1 out of 10 doses):
• Redness, tenderness, swelling at the injection site
• Fever, subfebrile temperature or higher (up to ~38°C)
• Decreased appetite, irritability, increased excitability or crying, lethargy, drowsiness in infants/children
• Sleep disturbances, fussiness
Occasionally:
• Vomiting, diarrhea, general weakness
Very rare / with caution:
• Severe allergic reactions to vaccine components (including sensitivity to antibiotics used in production)
• Seizures, shock-like reactions, collapse, prolonged crying — in severe reactions to the pertussis component (rare).
⸻
🚫 Contraindications and precautions
Infanrix Hexa is not recommended / not used if:
• The child had a severe allergic reaction to any component of the vaccine, including trace residues of antibiotics (neomycin/polymyxin) or formaldehyde.
• There was a serious reaction after a previous pertussis vaccination — for example, encephalopathy of unknown origin within 7 days after vaccination.
• The child has severe acute infections, high fever — vaccination is postponed until recovery.
Also, as with any vaccinations: before the vaccination, the doctor assesses the child's condition. Afterward, the child should be observed for ~30 minutes.
⸻
📌 Why Infanrix Hexa is often chosen (comparison with DTP and other schedules)
• Unlike the basic vaccine (e.g., just DTP + polio + hepatitis + Hib separately), Infanrix Hexa provides combined protection against six infections at once.
• This saves doctor visits, minimizes the number of injections, and simplifies the vaccination schedule.
• It creates reliable immunity from infancy, which is especially important in the early years of life.
• Vaccination usually begins at 6 weeks of age.
