Rules for Preparing for the Andrological (Testosterone) Check-up:

Test Timing: Tests must be performed strictly between 7:00 and 10:00 AM, as this is the period when a physiological peak in testosterone production is observed.

Preparation: Tests are performed on an empty stomach after 8–12 hours of fasting. Only pure still water is allowed.

Physical Activity and Lifestyle: For 48 hours prior to the examination, avoid intensive workouts, alcohol consumption, and visits to saunas or steam rooms.

Sleep and Stress: Ensure a full night’s sleep of at least 7–8 hours on the day before, and avoid significant psycho-emotional stress.

Repeat Testing: If a borderline low level of total testosterone (less than 12.1 nmol/L or 350 ng/dL) is detected, a repeat examination is recommended after 1–2 weeks, with a mandatory determination of SHBG levels.

Preparation for the Andrological Check-up

Proper preparation for the examination ensures the most reliable results from laboratory and ultrasound diagnostics.

Preparation for Laboratory Tests:

Blood should be drawn strictly between 08:00 and 10:00 AM, as testosterone reaches its physiologically highest level during this time.

Fasting:
Tests must be performed on an empty stomach following an 8–12 hour overnight fast. In the morning before the exam, do not consume any food, tea, coffee, juices, or other beverages. Only pure still water is allowed.

Hydration:
It is recommended to drink 1–2 glasses of still water 1–2 hours before the examination.

Alcohol:
Completely avoid alcohol consumption for 48 hours before the examination.

Physical Activity:
Refrain from intensive workouts, heavy physical labor, as well as sauna or steam room visits for 48 hours prior to the exam.

Smoking:
Do not smoke 1–2 hours before the tests.

Medications:
If you are taking hormonal medications, anabolic steroids, testosterone preparations, or other drugs affecting your hormonal balance, be sure to inform your doctor. Do not discontinue any prescribed treatment on your own.

Preparation for the Three-Glass Urine Test and Urine Bacterial Culture:

• The first morning urine should be used for the tests.
• Before collection, thoroughly cleanse the external genital organs without using any antiseptic agents.
• It is recommended to avoid alcohol and intensive physical activity for 24 hours before the test.

If possible, the bacterial culture should be conducted before starting antibiotic therapy or no earlier than 10–14 days after completing an antibiotic course.

The sample must be delivered to the laboratory within 1.5–2 hours of collection.

Preparation for Ultrasound Examination of the Prostate and Urinary System:

• One hour before the examination, drink 500–700 ml of still water and do not urinate until the examination is completed. A full bladder is necessary for assessing residual urine volume and for a complete prostate evaluation.

Preparation for Abdominal Ultrasound:

For 2–3 days before the examination, avoid foods that increase gas formation, such as:
• Legumes
• Cabbage
• Freshly baked goods
• Milk
• Carbonated Beverages
• Large amounts of fresh vegetables and fruits

The examination is performed on an empty stomach after 6–8 hours of fasting.

Andrological Consultation:
Before the consultation, it is advisable to prepare:
• The results of previous examinations (if available)
• A list of the medications and dietary supplements you are currently taking
• Information about any past illnesses and surgeries
• A list of complaints and questions you would like to discuss with the doctor.
