CHECKUP BLOOD THICKENING

Increased blood viscosity may not manifest symptoms for a long time but can significantly raise the risk of thrombosis, stroke, heart attack, and circulatory disorders. A comprehensive check-up allows for the detection of coagulation system disorders, hereditary predisposition to thrombophilia, inflammatory and metabolic risk factors, as well as provides medical recommendations for further prevention and treatment.

Preparation for the Examination:

Blood samples must be taken strictly in the morning on an empty stomach, optimally between 08:00 and 11:00.

The fasting period before the test should be 10–12 hours. During this time, only plain still water is allowed.

Alcohol consumption must be completely avoided for 24 hours before the test, and intense physical activities (workouts, heavy lifting) should be avoided.

Within 12 hours prior to blood sampling, fatty, spicy, and fried foods should be excluded from the diet, and overeating should be avoided.

Refrain from smoking for 1–2 hours before specimen collection.

Immediately before the procedure, it is recommended to sit quietly for 15–20 minutes to stabilize circulatory parameters.

Additional Recommendations:

Adequate hydration is crucial the day before the test. Dehydration leads to blood thickening (hemoconcentration), which can artificially raise hematocrit and blood viscosity values.

The intake of any medications must be coordinated with your attending physician. If you are taking drugs that affect the coagulation system (antiplatelets, anticoagulants including aspirin, heparins, warfarin, or direct oral anticoagulants), as well as hormone replacement therapy or oral contraceptives, you must inform the laboratory staff. This information should be specified in the test referral.

If discontinuation of anticoagulant therapy is impossible, blood sampling should be performed strictly before taking the next morning dose of the medication.
